About the Event

Defend the dead. (Philip 2008, 26)

"What does it mean to defend the dead? To tend to the black dead and dying: to tend to the Black person, to Black people, always living in the push toward our death? It means work. It is work: hard emotional, physical, and intellectual work that demands vigilant attendance to the needs of the dying, to ease their way, and also to the needs of the living."

In the Wake: On Blackness& Being, Sharpe

The wake.

Ripples left in tow, of that which has departed.

These ripples and waves of what once was yet now passed wash against all who stand ashore, and it is up to us to commemorate and honor the voyage.

This is our time to bare sight to the voyages and departures of so many forced to embark upon the crossroads, yet never given what they are owed.

What do we owe Black Trans People?

What do we owe Black Women?

Those so often and forgotten after sailing into waters in where we may not follow.

We Demand Justice

We Demand Vigilance

We Demand Retribution

We Demand Reverence

WE DEMAND LIFE.

Life given to the memories of those who’ve been taken from, and the life owed to we who still stand ashore.

WE STAND FOR BLACK WOMEN

WE STAND FOR BLACK TRANS PEOPLE

AND WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED NO MATTER HOW FIERCE OR FEROCIOUS THE TIDE.

This march will center the voices and experiences of Black Trans People & Black Women, if that hasn’t be made candidly obvious, all outside of the aforementioned communities know that you are guests in our efforts to grieve our own,

MASKS ARE REQUIRED, IF YOU ARE SEEN WITHOUT A MASK OR PROPER PPE IT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU.

There will be a shrine provided for those who are centered within this ceremony, Black Trans People & Black Women, to contribute to if they so desire. We highly encourage the inclusion of photos, offerings, letters, etc..
